Active Route Maps - North South & East West lines

Today, I am posting a new category of maps to this blog, namely active route maps. These special maps are usually installed above the doors of newer trains before delivery or retrofitted into older models. The active route map of the North South and East West lines is implemented by SMRT and commonly known as STARIS.

LED lamps are installed behind each white circle to indicate the present and stations ahead that are in the route. The maps uses LTA Identity as a font for the code numbers and text. In my opinion, LTA Identity should be used sparingly as the font is highly stylized, and it does not look good when it's all jumbled together, distracting the viewer from the route and the content.

At the moment, the Tuas West Extension, future Downtown Line interchanges (except Bugis) and Marina South Pier remain stickered over. However, in the interest of accuracy, this map includes everything.

Such a map is unwieldy as it means LTA will have to continue to update the map as future lines come into operation, wasting money and resources. Nevertheless, they have been implemented on the Downtown Line trains as well, with the North East and Circle lines trains soon sporting them in future.

As per suggestions from previous commentators on SkyscraperCity Forums, the background has been dimmed slightly to match the real world object.

I will be posting up versions of the Downtown Line active route info maps in the near future, with other combinations which will be mocked up.

Enjoy the map.
